Naomi Ruth (Powers) Morton

October 25, 1935 ~ January 22, 2021 (age 85)

Obituary

Naomi Ruth Morton, age 85, of Farmersville, peacefully went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 22, 2021. At the time of her passing she was at home surrounded by her loved ones including her children, their families, and a host of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Naomi Ruth was granted her final prayer; to go Home on the birthday of her late husband and soulmate, Philip D. Morton, who preceded her in death in 2015.

Naomi Ruth (Powers) Morton was born in Frenchburg, Kentucky on October 25th, 1935, one of nine children of Benjamin Henry Powers and Lucille Margaret (Rainey) Powers, both preceded her in death many years ago. The Powers family moved to Germantown in the 1940’s where she grew up and graduated as a Germantown Cardinal in 1953. She was well known to her family, friends and her extensive church family, as a person who was always ready with a friendly greeting, a word of encouragement, and a sincere hug. Known as Aunt Ruthie, or Mamaw Ruth, she was a Christian prayer warrior who often reminded those around her that she had recently remembered them in her prayers. She was a lifelong student of the Bible and faithful member of Abundant Life Tabernacle in Germantown, where she was known as an ‘encourager’ to everyone she met.

Ruth loved traveling and camping with her husband Philip and particularly enjoyed when the whole family vacationed together at Dale Hollow Lake or assembled for huge family meals at the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. In her younger days she often held a grandkid sleep over with as many of her grandkids that could attend. She is remembered for being a ‘fun and silly’ grandmother who treated every child like they were her own.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Karen (Rick) Robinson, of Farmersville, her twin sons Robert Dale (Paula) Morton, of Carlisle, and Philip G. (Carol) Morton, of Germantown, a brother Raymond (Suzie) Powers of Dallas, her 8 grandchildren; Derek (Lori) Robinson, Leah (Jason) Beasley, and Jacob (Rebekah) Robinson, Justin (Tara) Morton, Jaclyn (Josh) Sheldon, Amy (DeWight) Smith, Philip Isaac (Heather) Morton, Jonathan (Danielle) Morton. Ruth had 18 great grandchildren, a special nephew Fred (Karen) Short, and many other members of her extended family.

She was preceded in death by husband Philip D. Morton, parents; Benjamin Henry and Lucille Margaret Powers, sisters; Lois, Elizabeth, Mae, Opal, brothers; Benjamin, Arbie, and Samuel, and many other loved ones.

Services will be officiated by Reverend James Setser of Abundant Life Tabernacle, Germantown. Visitation is Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 11:30am to 1:00pm with the funeral at 1:00pm. Internment is at Holp Cemetery in Farmersville.
