Richard “Rich” Alan Slusser, of Germantown, Ohio, peacefully entered eternal life on Sunday morning, March 15, 2026, at the age of 71, while at home and surrounded by the love of his family. Rich was born on December 5, 1954, to Doris M. (Hankin) and the late Norman E. Slusser Sr., Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy.
Rich entered the concrete construction industry with Myer’s Poured Walls in 1978. After graduating from Miami University, he went on to become a successful entrepreneur, co-founding SPS Foundations alongside his beloved nephew and 23-year business partner, Bradley Smith.
A dedicated member of the Germantown community, Rich was known for his strong work ethic, unwavering loyalty, and generous heart. Above all, he valued his family and friends and held a deep and abiding faith in God.
Rich found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved the game of golf, cycling, listening to music, reading, journaling, and following his favorite teams—the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns—with great enthusiasm. One of his favorite traditions to share each year with family and friends was the “Spaghetti Bowl” for the OSU vs. TTUN game, with this past November marking his 50th year. Rich created lasting memories and a love of tradition that will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Betty J. Slusser, whose steadfast love and partnership were the foundation of their family. He also leaves behind his precious mother, Doris Amburgey; his beloved daughter, Deborah L. (Dane J.) Margerum; his son, Tim W. (Michelle L.) Sweeney; and his adored golden retriever, Radar.
Rich was a proud and loving grandfather, affectionately known as “Pap,” to Brandis Nicole (Joel M.) O’Bradovic, Kyle Jerome (Brandy M.) Margerum, Lacey Jane Schooler, Lindsey Griffen, Lauren (Bobby) Trusty, and Leah Griffen; and a great-grandfather to Cole Capone, Alexis Margerum, Maelee Margerum, and Emmie Margerum, each of whom brought tremendous happiness to his life.
He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Smith; his nieces and nephews, including his treasured niece, Jessica Weeks; along with many close friends and extended family members whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Rich was preceded in death by his father, Norman E. Slusser Sr.; his stepfather, Carl J. Amburgey; and his dear brother, Norman “Norm” Slusser Jr.
Richard held a profound love for his country and a deep appreciation for the United States military. He will be remembered for his integrity, dedication, and the warmth he shared with everyone he met. His legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 28th, 2026 from 2:30 - 5:30 PM at the Wildwood Golf Club, Middletown, Ohio – 601 Aberdeen Drive, Middletown, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations for the purchase of a bench and other ideas being discussed that will be placed at Wildwood Golf Club in memory of Rich.
