Lawrence D. Veach, affectionately known as Larry, of Hillsboro, Ohio, passed away on May 22, 2025, at Highland District Hospital. Born on August 10, 1946, in Portsmouth, Ohio, he lived a life that was well-traveled and filled with the warmth of family and friendship.
Larry retired after 31 years of dedicated service at Emory Air Freight, where he was known for his hard work and commitment to excellence. His retirement allowed him to pursue his other passions, including traveling, camping, and fishing, all of which he enjoyed. He also became a beloved member of the First Church of God in Germantown, where he attended since Easter of 2013, finding community and support among fellow congregants.
Larry is survived by many who loved him dearly. He is remembered fondly by his best friend and soulmate of over 20 years, Sandy Ogdan, who shared countless moments of happiness and adventure with him. He is also survived by his son Larry Douglas, Jr. (Kathy) Veach, and daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Thomas) Gilespie. Larry also had a special bond with his step-daughter Anna Ogdan.
Larry was also the cherished brother-in-law to Mary Jo Veach, and he took great pride in his role as an uncle to Steve Allen Veach, Gary Lee VanDyke, and Amanda VanDyke. He held a special place in his heart for his lifetime best friends Ralph and Janice Flowers, with whom he shared many unforgettable memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Allen and Irene (Bivens) Veach, his sister, Sharon Kay VanDyke, brother James Frederick Veach, and Uncle Joe and Aunt Delores Dixon. Each of them left an indelible mark on his life, and their memories will be forever cherished.
A visitation will be held on May 29, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Arpp, Root, Carter Funeral Home, located at 29 N. Main Street, Germantown, Ohio. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Larry will then be laid to rest during a graveside service at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio, at 1:00 PM.
Larry D. Veach will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family and friends, and his zest for life. He has left behind a tapestry of love that his surviving family and friends will continue to share in his honor.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ledrew and Dr. Michael Beason for their dedication in managing Larry’s vision care, and Dr. Ballinger and all his staff as well as the staff at Highland District Hospital for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the First Church of God, 760 Farmersville Pike, Germantown OH 45327.
