Janet T. Metcalf "Jan"

Janet T. Metcalf, affectionately known as Jan,  of Germantown, passed away on October 3, 2026, at Atrium Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on April 18, 1952, in Wellston, Ohio.

Jan was a 1970 graduate of Wellston High School. She grew up in a very devout Irish Catholic family and attended Catholic school through the eighth grade, a foundation that remained part of the story of her life. She worked for many years at Gross Lumber and later retired from Valley View Elementary School in Farmersville, where she worked in the cafeteria.

She was a simple woman who found happiness in life’s quiet and familiar pleasures. Jan loved tending her flower beds, sitting outside in the sunshine, and watching the world go by. Known for her generous spirit, she would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Above all else, her children and family were her proudest accomplishment and the center of her life.

Jan is survived by her husband of 51 years, Vernon Metcalf; her daughter, Angela Metcalf; her son, Vernon Metcalf; and her sisters, Sally Mello and Peggy Smith and a host of extended family members and friends. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, and remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the steady, unassuming way she cared for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothy O’Leary, and by her daughter, April Christina Metcalf, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Arpp, Root, Carter Funeral Home, 29 N. Main Street, Germantown, Ohio 45327. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Germantown Union Cemetery.
