Gary L. Mockbee

Gary L. Mockbee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2026. Born on October 11, 1948, in Middletown, Ohio, Gary's life was a testament to faith, family, and fellowship.

A graduate of Lemon-Monroe High School, Gary brought his dedication and skill to his career at Buckeye Collision, where he worked with pride as a painter and bodyman. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a man of many talents and passions. He loved fishing, enjoyed creating and fine-tuning home theater systems; and had a special knack for building electronics, especially speakers, showcasing his meticulous craftsmanship and creative spirit. He had a special love for animals, seeing them as part of God’s beautiful creation. His gentle spirit shone through in the way he treated every living thing.

Gary’s personality was marked by a wonderful sense of humor that could light up any room and lift the spirits of those around him (laugh now, cry later).  His laughter was contagious, and he possessed a rare gift for bringing joy even during the most challenging times. Deeply wise and thoughtful, he was known for offering biblical and practical advice that consistently pointed people toward truth and peace. His family was the joy of his heart, and he poured his love into them daily through his words, actions, and unwavering presence. He taught them by example what it means to walk with the Lord.

His greatest passion was witnessing for Jesus Christ. Boldly and lovingly, Gary shared his faith with a heart full of compassion and conviction. He led many to a saving knowledge of the Lord, carrying a passionate desire to see souls saved and lives transformed by the Gospel. This spiritual legacy remains his most enduring impact—a testament to a life lived not only for others but for the Kingdom of God.

Gary’s family remembers him with deep love and gratitude. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan Mockbee, and their children: Olga (Brent) Manning, Danny (Dorinda) Hartman, Joe Mockbee, and Donna Mockbee. His legacy continues in his grandchildren, Payton, Jewely, Lia, Alanna, Cameron, CC, Joy, Elaina, Legend, and Gideon, as well as five great-grandchildren who carry forward his spirit. He also leaves behind his sister, Tawana Cavicchioni; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Kenneth) Dalton and Terri Conley; and brother-in-law Harry Hartman. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Olga (Powell) Mockbee; his son, Gary Petrey; and his brother, Jim Bob Mockbee.

A graveside service honoring Gary’s life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Germantown Union Cemetery, located at 11179 W Market St., Germantown, Ohio. Family, friends, and all whose lives Gary touched are invited to join in celebrating the remarkable journey of a man whose faith never wavered and whose love never failed.

Gary L. Mockbee rests now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, having finished his race with unwavering faith. He leaves behind a testimony of a life well-lived—centered on God, family, kindness, laughter, wisdom, and the salvation of souls. The words of Scripture ring true in remembering him: "Well done, good and faithful servant." Though he will be deeply missed, there is comfort in knowing that Gary is home with the Lord, where his spirit shines eternally.  Go rest high on the mountain.
