Doris Bowling, a talented artist and compassionate individual, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, in Miamisburg, Ohio, surrounded by her family and friends. Born on September 21, 1953, in Hazard, Kentucky, Doris was a beacon of kindness and humility throughout her life.
Doris’ career was marked by her artistic skills and her dedication to helping others. She worked as a transcriptionist for a physician's office and a nursing home, worked as a stable hand for a while, and served as a student counselor at Moorehead State. Her education included studies at Hazard Community College, Eastern Kentucky University, and Moorehead State, where she cultivated her knowledge and passion for supporting those around her.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Doris remember her as sweet, genuine, and a great listener. She had an incredible ability to provide meaningful advice and was known for always checking in on her sons. Doris possessed a strong faith and loved the Lord, which was a source of strength for her, especially in her battles with health challenges, especially the past 16 years. Her prognosis was 2 years in 2009 and her strength outweighed that by 16 years. She was truly a fighter, demonstrating remarkable resilience throughout her life.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Doris took immense pride in her sons, Kendrick and Daniel “Bret” Lewallen, who are a testament to her role as a nurturing mother. Her hobbies included crafting and enjoying movies, activities that brought joy and creativity to her life. She also loved animals, especially her cats Blacky, Stormy, Socks, BB, Sunny, Bella, and Callie.
Doris is survived by her beloved sons, Kendrick and Bret Lewallen, and their father Kenneth Lewallen; her brother, Burton Bowling; her sister, Parma Bowling Mullins; and her brother, Aaron Bowling. As well as her caregiver of 8 years, Cheryl Smith and her dear friend Jamie Jewell who assisted with her care as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Minnie (Merrill) Bowling; her brother, Audney "Shockey" Bowling; her sister, Velma Bowling Noplis; and her brothers, Paul Bowling and Chester Bowling, Jr.
The impact Doris made on her family and friends will be cherished and remembered, as her spirit of kindness, love, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire those she left behind.
