The Watkins family announces the passing of Dallas Chester Watkins, age 85, of Germantown, OH. Dallas was born on August 15th, 1939 in Berea, Kentucky to Charles and Ollie Watkins, was a graduate of Germantown High School, class of 1957 where he played baseball for the Germantown Cardinals High School team.
Dallas served in the United States Navy in the Submarine Service and retired after 18 years as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, serving in the Vietnam War, with many awards and commendations to his credit. Using the GI Bill, Dallas attended Miami University where he earned his Masters Degree in Education, and he also met and married the love of his life, Linda Watkins (nee Stevenson). After earning his Masters Degree, he taught Industrial Arts (“shop”) at Madison High School in Middletown, Ohio for over twenty years, retiring in 1999.
Dallas was a tireless volunteer for the benefit of his community, a lifetime Member of the Germantown Lions Club, serving on improvement committees for several churches he attended, a lifelong Red Cross Blood Donor where he donated over 100 pints of blood, and was always donating his time and energy to his children’s school activities and clubs.
He is survived by his wife Linda, his siblings Herman, Barbara and Carol, his children Sarah and Andrew, and his three granddaughters Violet, Ava and Emma.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 6:00PM at the Arpp, Root & Carter Funeral Home, 29 N Main St. Germantown beginning with US Navy Military Honors and followed by the Germantown Lions Necrology service. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Germantown Lions Club, 364 E Market St. Germantown OH 45327.
