Calvin Powell, Jr.

Powell, Calvin J. Jr. age 77 of Miamisburg passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Sycamore Life Care.  He was born November 28, 1939 in Hampton, VA to the late Calvin J, Sr. and Dorothy (Smith) Powell.  After serving his country in the US Army, Calvin went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, a Masters degree in Physics from Penn State, and his MBA and Masters in special education from the University of Toledo.  He was a 33 year member of the Miamisburg Rotary Club and part of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.  He was always happiest coaching track for the Catholic Youth Organization and Miamisburg Track Team.  He also enjoyed his time coaching the USATF Track Club.  Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his twin sons Calvin J. Powell III and Bradley J. Powell, his sister Alva Newby and brother Harvey Powell.  He is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Jane (Matney) Powell, his daughters JoAnna Powell, Dorothy (Matthew) Stevens, sons Michael Powell, Kareem Powell, Walter Powell, and Stephen Powell, grandchildren Seth Stevens and Anariah Powell, his brothers James Powell, Sr., Clarence (Carol)  Powell, and Theodore Powell, and many more beloved extended family members and friends.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Parkview United Methodist Church, 3713 Benner Rd. Miamisburg, OH 45342 with Rosario Picardo officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30PM.
